Directions and Parking

See the Bing map, here for directions to the building (Mixer @ The Commons) from the hotel. You can see this PDF for a high-level map and verbal directions from more distant points. If you drive, we highly recommend that you park near the Studio B building (see this PDF for a view) and take that elevator up to the top level. The Mixer building is located diagonally to the left when you get off the elevator.

A flat map of the Mixer building is in this PDF. Attendees can use the lunch vouchers in any of the restaurants there. The entrance is located by the Pike Place @ The Commons area.

Public Transit in the Seattle/Redmond area.

Seattle and the Eastside area are served by two coordinated public transit systems: King County Metro (local buses) and Sound Transit (regional express buses, light rail from Downtown Seattle to SeaTac Airport, and north/south commuter rail). Metro's Regional Trip Planner includes both systems and is a great tool for figuring out how to get around the area without a car. Amtrak's Cascades service connects Seattle with Eugene and Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada).

WiFi

WiFi access codes for all attendees will be provided during the conference.

Childcare

A Nanny for U provides childcare services in the Redmond area.

Local attractions

The Greater Seattle region is defined as much by the bodies of water that divide it as by the land itself. Lake Washington separates the City of Seattle from the Eastside region and its main city of Bellevue. Microsoft's main campus is located in the southern part of Redmond, where that city borders eastern Bellevue (in what is locally know as the Overlake area). Downtown Bellevue is approximately 5 miles away by car (a 8-15 minute drive from Microsoft, depending on traffic), and downtown Seattle is approximately 13 miles away by car (20 minutes to over an hour, again depending on traffic).

Bellevue is home to the Bellevue Arts Museum. Most of the area's other attractions are located in Seattle; these include the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Asian Art Museum, the Olympic Sculpture Park, the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum, the Pacific Science Center, the Seattle Aquarium, and the Museum of Flight.

If you're willing to venture a bit outside the Seattle/Bellevue area, the Boeing Company's Future of Flight Aviation Center and Everett Factory Tour (where 747s, 767s, 777s and 787 Dreamliners are assembled) is located in Everett, about 30 minutes north of Seattle (tours given 7 days/week). The Puget Sound region is also home to three U.S. National Parks: Mount Rainier (south/southeast of Seattle), North Cascades (north of the city), Olympic (west, across Puget Sound — take the ferry). Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument is about 96 miles south of Seattle (two hours by car).
